The Council of Graduate Students

University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

Who are COGS?

The Council of Graduate Students (COGS) is the Recognized Student Governance Association (RSGA) at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus that represents, advocates for, informs, facilitates communications among, and supports Twin Cities graduate students (students who are seeking a research degree: a Ph.D. or a Master's that is associated with a Ph.D. program).

All COGS-fee paying graduate students are members of the COGS General Assembly. Each graduate program can elect one voting General Assembly member amongst all their graduate students to represent their program.

Our Locations

Our office is located in Coffman Memorial Union, and our primary in-person General Assembly meeting venue is HSEC-2-132 (East Bank; may vary between meetings) as it fulfills our need to accommodate at least 100 people, is accessible, and is close to campus bus stops. For accurate in-person meeting venues for each meeting, please visit our Leadership & Representatives webpage.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, we have adopted a hybrid modality for both General Assembly and Executive Committee meetings. Meeting modality is subject to change according to current COVID-19 policies and risk. Please contact us for further clarification and relevant questions.
