Frequently Asked Questions
For Grant Applicants
Q: When will I get the results of the grant?
A: Notifications of grant awards will occur no later than 90 days after the first date of the activity date cycle.
Q: If I apply this cycle, can I apply again next cycle?
A: Yes, whether you get accepted or declined, you may apply again.
Q: Do I have to submit a recommendation letter?
A: Recommendation letters are not required but increase your chances of getting a grant.
Q: Do I have to look for other sources of funding?
A: It is encouraged and one of the application criteria. Even if you have no other sources, please explain where you have looked.
Q: I am applying for a summer grant but I am not paying COGS fees for the summer. Am I still eligible?
A: Payment of the COGS fee or proper FTE registration in the previous spring semester is sufficient.
Q: If my application gets accepted, when will I receive my reimbursement?
A: Usually no later than two weeks after the reimbursement deadline, which is a week after the activity date range.
Q: When is the next application cycle?
A: Refer to previous application cycles; the timelines between semesters and years are similar.
For Grant Reviewers
Q: Can I be a reviewer if I have received a grant before?
A: Yes.
Q: Can I be a reviewer if I am applying during the same cycle?
A: No.
Q: Can I receive multiple gift cards if I review multiple sets?
A: Yes, $10 for one set, $15 if you complete two.
Q: Do I have to attend a training session?
A: If you can’t make the 30min training session, you are required to watch the 30min recording of the session and email the grants team with your takeaways.
Q: Do I have to attend a group review session?
A: Group review sessions are mandatory for all reviewers.
Q: Something came up and I can’t review anymore. What should I do?
A: Please contact us ASAP if you have any issues so that we can find a replacement reviewer.
Q: I have a conflict of interest with an applicant. What should I do?
A: Please contact us ASAP so that we can find a replacement reviewer. You should still review the remaining applications in the set.
Q: Can I volunteer as a reviewer if I am not a COGS fee-paying member?
A: Reviewers are limited to COGS-fee paying members only.
